Finzels Reach: No repeat of ‘Boaty McBoatface’ for new bridge

The Bristol development firm building Finzels Reach says a name like Boaty McBoatface is unlikely to become the name of Bristol’s latest bridge.

Director of Cubex Gavin Bridges said the Clifton firm asked the public to propose suggestions for naming the bridge, “as it’s in such a key location.” But he ruled out the shortlist being made by the city’s public, meaning that they will only have the final say over a list approved by the judging panel beforehand.

“We want to find a name that people locally will embrace, that will stand the test of time.”

The judging panel making the, “final call,” will include representatives from Cubex, local politicians, Bristol Civic Society, Bristol Shopping Quarter, Castle Park Users Group and Sustrans.

Footage created by Bristol’s Lobster Pictures shows the bridge being put in place.

Cubex say the public’s deadline for submitting suggestions is the end of today, and can be done through the development website.
