A campaign has started to regenerate the bombed-out church in Castle Park, which has stood since as a monument to those who died in World War I and World War II.
The grade II-listed St Peter’s church was destroyed in the German Blitz bombing of 1940.
Russ Leith, the head of ‘Friends of Castle Park’, wants to start the project off with small positive improvements to the church site to make the area safer and more inviting to the public.
As well as general site maintenance, Russ wants to introduce illuminating lighting, sculptures and motion sensor triggered sound clips that explain historical facts about the site.
You can find all the details of the project at ‘Friends of Castle Park’ on Facebook, where Russ encourages all kinds of comments and questions.
