Source Flickr; https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/49429730@N08\/4698947279. <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chancellor Jeremy Hunt revealed government\u2019s tax and spending plans which was announced in what the chancellor called the \u201cAutumn Statement for growth\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hunt increases state pension by 8.5% as well as a triple lock pension guarantee. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pensions will increase to match average earnings meaning payments will be made every four weeks by the government to people who have reached the qualifying age and if they have paid enough national insurance contribution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Bristol Older People\u2019s Forum (BOPF) Engagement and Development Manager Ian Quaife speaks about if this is truly helpful. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-video\"><video height=\"1080\" style=\"aspect-ratio: 1920 \/ 1080;\" width=\"1920\" controls src=\"https:\/\/uwejournalism.net\/bowernews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/Pensions-interview-1.mp4\"><\/video><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>8.5% State pension rise, interview 1 with Ian Quaife. <\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Quaife said: &#8220;Thank you for the triple lock, its good that its protecting it that way but absolutely no in terms of it compensating for the rise of cost of living rises, particularly in energy costs, food costs, rental costs, mortgage costs, absolutely not going to cover any of those things.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;It is a struggle, and I don&#8217;t think people are coping, and I don&#8217;t think this rise will make that much difference.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Quaife addresses living on \u00a311,000 per year saying, &#8220;If you&#8217;re on the full state pension, you&#8217;re on just over 10, nearly \u00a311,000 a year.
