A few small bits to finish up, like new bike parking, but transformation is nearly complete! <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/4RW5Mlhg29\">pic.twitter.com\/4RW5Mlhg29<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Tom Hathway (@Tom_jam) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Tom_jam\/status\/1735652348528066630?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 15, 2023<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Cotham Hill stretch &#8211; host to plenty of independent shops and cafes &#8211; was temporarily closed off to cars back in 2021, with the goal of bringing down pollution and traffic levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Businesses previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-bristol-65951171\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-england-bristol-65951171\">praised<\/a> the idea of making the area a pedestrian zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adjustments to the road include wider pavements, bike parking facilities and more benches &#8211; one special feature of the project is the anti-skid surfacing that has been applied down the middle of the path, to allow a fast lane for cyclists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The improvements made by the council fall under the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bristol.gov.uk\/residents\/streets-travel\/transport-plans-and-projects\/active-travel-improvements-for-walking-and-cycling\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.bristol.gov.uk\/residents\/streets-travel\/transport-plans-and-projects\/active-travel-improvements-for-walking-and-cycling\">&#8216;active travel&#8217; policy<\/a> being undertaken in the city. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Work on Cotham Hill is due to be complete by the end of the year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bristol City Council&#8217;s road improvements in the Cotham Hill area are showing significant results after months of work.
