Bristol City Council (@BristolCouncil) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BristolCouncil\/status\/1867193078156554681?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">December 12, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote> <script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Our role is to lead by example and pressure leaders to act nationally.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Councillor Classick was supported in this motion by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohour.uk\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.zerohour.uk\/\">environmental charity \u2018Zero Hour\u2019<\/a>, named for the Doomsday Clock, which metaphorically represents humanity&#8217;s closeness to global catastrophe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"700\" height=\"400\" src=\"https:\/\/uwejournalism.net\/bowernews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Edited-wild-oats-copy.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-42013\" srcset=\"https:\/\/uwejournalism.net\/bowernews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Edited-wild-oats-copy.jpg 700w, https:\/\/uwejournalism.net\/bowernews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Edited-wild-oats-copy-300x171.jpg 300w, https:\/\/uwejournalism.net\/bowernews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Edited-wild-oats-copy-640x366.jpg 640w, https:\/\/uwejournalism.net\/bowernews\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Edited-wild-oats-copy-681x389.jpg 681w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 700px) 100vw, 700px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Wild Oats is one of many carbon neutral shops in Bristol<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Bill faced some opposition from local Conservative Councillors who believed that there needed to be greater public involvement&nbsp;in solving the problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The decision came just days before Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner\u2019s announcement that some green spaces may need to be used in order to build housing, which could be perceived as a violation of the Bill.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However Allan Gray, communications lead for \u2018Zero Hour\u2019 &nbsp;believes that the housing crisis can be fixed alongside the climate crisis, arguing that creating conflict between the two is detrimental in fixing both problems&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8220;Some compromises need to be made&#8230;
