More than 100 people took part in 1625 Independent People’s annual Sleep Out at Lloyd’s Amphitheatre<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

A Bristol charity said rising costs and limited availability are a “significant barrier” to people having safe and secure rental housing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It comes as more than 100 people participated in a sleep out in the centre of the city to highlight the issues around youth homelessness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Huge surges in private renting costs have left many under 25s unable to afford rental accommodation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caring in Bristol said the problem was “driving homelessness among young people in Bristol”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The biggest reason for people becoming homeless was the end of private tenancies, Bristol City Council’s Homeless and Rough Sleeping Strategy<\/a> revealed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Renter’s Rights Act<\/a>, rolling out in from May 2026, intends to put an end to these no fault evictions – where tenants are told to leave their rental homes without reason – and will empower tenants to challenge unfair rent increases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
