“A tragic day” as Cabot Circus cinema closes after final screening

Showcase De Lux cinema in Cabot Circus has officially closed after its final showing last night, and many have gone to social media to express their dismay.

Charlie Watts posted on ‘X’ saying “it’s a tragic day for cinema goers in Bristol as Showcase Cabot Circus closes forever tonight”.

Another user says “Goodbye Showcase Cinema De Lux Bristol… I’ve got so many memories from this cinema.”

There are currently no plans for the existing space, but a new independent cinema is reportedly being planned to be built in Broadmead.

Some ‘X’ users have speculated over the future of the building with the possibility of “the next hotel or student accommodation”.

Dan Shirley posted, “How about we put one massive IMAX in there? Like the BFI in London”.

The closure comes due to an agreement not being met on a new lease after the cinema’s 15 year run in Cabot Circus.

A screening of ‘Saltburn’ at 10:10pm was the final ever showing at Bristol’s premiere cinema.

Cineworld at the Hengrove Leisure Park also closed in November, leaving the south of Bristol without a cinema.
