Imelda Staunton’s two-series stint in the role of the late Queen Elizabeth II comes to an end this week, as The Crown draws to a close.
The role has been previously been held by two other actresses, who have changed over to show the Queen aging throughout her life: Claire Foy and Olivia Colman both played younger iterations of Her Majesty, and will return for the finale.
Users took to X to comment on the three versions of the Queen all appearing at once, with one joking that the the show was mirroring ‘Spiderman: No Way Home’ which featured all three actors that had played Spiderman together:
Creator of the Netflix original series – which was once the most expensive show it had ever produced – Peter Morgan, has said at the end of its run that he is “relieved” it is over.
The show has proved to be a huge hit for Netflix, attracting 107.7 million viewers globally in its fifth series alone.
But it has had a slight decline in popularity this year, as the series six premiere had 35% less viewers than the fifth series debut.
Moving closer to the present day, the second half of the closing series will cover (now, King) Charles’ wedding to Camilla Parker-Bowles and Princes William and Harry grieving the loss of their mother, Princess Diana.
