Watershed is offering Barton House residents a free screening of Chicken Run 2: Dawn of the Nugget, with popcorn and vegan soup this weekend.
The special offer comes after a heated confrontation in City Hall this week, between residents and ACORN with council members.
The residents are still unsure of their future, with some still living in hotels and others returning to the unsafe block to fulfil their basic needs, pleaded with the city council on Tuesday to save Barton House.
In a statement at full council meeting, residents said: “It is not perfect but it is our home.”
Cafè Conscious near Barton House has recently been providing distractions, activities and toys for children of Barton House residents.
Volunteer Sandy Pocket said: “Some of the families have children with autism…if they have a change in routine or they are out of sorts they can become more agitated and that is bound to have a knock on effect on the parents…so we have packs set up for the children with sensory toys and things that would help them to be distracted from the situation”.
Watershed’s announcement of the free screening will hopefully be another welcome distraction from the situation for children and families both with special educational needs and without.
Mr Rees said the council is still awaiting an analysis of the structural integrity of the building and will update residents this weekend.
