National Severe Weather Warnings have been issued by the Met Office for this weekend, as the arrival of Storm Bert sees heavy rainfall expected in the South West.
The storm is due to arrive overnight Friday and into Saturday and is expected to bring heavy rain, especially in southern and western parts of the country.
The Met Office’s Chief Meteorologist Jason Kelly has said that the deluge will “develop during Saturday morning and become particularly heavy and persistent overnight and into Sunday”.
It is likely that 50-75mm of rain will fall during this time, with some areas of the South West facing up to 150mm.
Strong southerly winds will accompany the heavy rain with wind speed predicted to peak at between 50-60 mph.
Storm Bert is being deemed a ‘multi-hazard event’, bringing rain, wind and even snow to many areas of the country.
This has seen the issuing of multiple Severe Weather Warnings by the Met Office, including a ‘yellow warning’ in the southwest, meaning some could experience road closures and flooding.
