A new campaign aiming to create safe spaces for refugees, migrants and people of colour across Bristol has been launched.
It comes after an 18-year old Chinese student was hospitalised with facial injuries after a brutal, racially aggravated assault in Bristol city centre on September 27.
The lone victim was attacked on Rupert Street, Bristol, between 7:40 and 8pm.
Police are hunting a white woman in her 20s: short, blue hair, dark designer jacket with black logo on left sleeve, blue hooded top, black trousers and white shoes.
“This appalling incident has caused huge distress,” Detective Constable Georgia Pearce declared. “Bristol is safe, but we won’t tolerate hate crime.”
In the wake of rising fears among migrants, refugees, and people of colour, Stand Up To Racism Bristol has launched Anti-Racist Bristol – a directory of businesses pledging solidarity.
Inspired by Safe Space Bristol for trans people, venues display stickers signalling: “Safe, welcoming. Unapologetically anti-racist”
“People are scared to leave home,” the campaign warns. “Join us – make hate impossible to hide.”
