Bristol City Council’s road improvements in the Cotham Hill area are showing significant results after months of work.
Green Party councillor Tom Hathway, who represents Clifton Down, shared his thoughts on the latest progress:
The Cotham Hill stretch – host to plenty of independent shops and cafes – was temporarily closed off to cars back in 2021, with the goal of bringing down pollution and traffic levels.
Businesses previously praised the idea of making the area a pedestrian zone.
Adjustments to the road include wider pavements, bike parking facilities and more benches – one special feature of the project is the anti-skid surfacing that has been applied down the middle of the path, to allow a fast lane for cyclists.
The improvements made by the council fall under the ‘active travel’ policy being undertaken in the city.
Work on Cotham Hill is due to be complete by the end of the year.
