Sylvia Pankhurst – The Honorary Ethiopian

A century ago, a fatigued suffragette retreated to the Essex countryside, opening a tea shop while recovering from burnout. But Sylvia Pankhurst’s story didn’t end there – she defied convention, embraced late motherhood, and forged an unlikely yet powerful friendship with Ethiopia’s King, Emperor Haile Selassie.

In this audio-rich documentary we hear the lesser-known story of how a renowned British feminist, socialist and single mother became one of Ethiopia’s fiercest allies, and explore why this history has been largely overlooked.
