Hollywood’s superstar Dick Van Dyke revealed that he was rescued by neighbours from Malibu Franklin Fire days before his 99th birthday.
Van Dyke is widely known for his iconic roles in Mary Poppins, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and his eponymous TV show.
He was amongst thousands that were displaced after the fire, fuelled by strong winds, spread across celebratory stronghold Malibu, scorching “4,000 acres“.
When trying to evacuate, Van Dyke was aided by his neighbours to a car, fleeing the fire that he could see approaching his house.
Van Dyke said: “It was coming from the hill, you could see it. And oh my God. We got out of here.
“I was trying to crawl to the car. I had exhausted myself. I couldn’t get up. Three neighbours came and carried me out”.
Some of his neighbours came home to their homes being burned down but fortunately for Van Dyke, his property was left unscathed.
Van Dyke confirmed on Facebook that he fled with his wife all his animals bar his cat Bobo but thankfully confirmed the cat was found safe and sound when they returned.
Other high profile people affected included legendary pop icon, Cher and star wars actor Mark Hamill who confirmed their safety.
