New Game sequels coming from The Witcher series and a world written by award-winning writer, George R.R. Martin have got the games world – and the internet – talking.
It’s been a big night for gamers, as the annual Game Awards returned last night and set alight the trending section of X. In amongst the ceremony, which featured live orchestration, Harrison Ford and awards, were new trailers for some of the biggest titles next year.
Some of the trailers that have got fans champing at the bit is CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher 4, following on from the wildly succesful 2015’s, The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt. You play as a Witcher, a monster slayer for hire, will now play as Ciri, rather than the orginal Witcher Geralt, who was portrayed by Henry Caville in the Netflix Series.
The other series getting a new title is Borderlands 4. A tongue-in-cheek sci-fi shooter, which came to screens earlier this year, the Borderlands series looks to be bringing its signiture silliness and action for another iteration. The trailer featuring the song ‘Starburster‘ by Fontaines D.C. shows off gameplay from the much anticipated looter-shooter.
Thirdly, whilst not technically a sequel, Elden Ring is getting a co-op game released next year. Elden Ring: Nightreign journeys back to the land between, but this time with your friends, a feature that some people tried to add manually. The game, which was co created by George R.R Martin, won game of the year in 2022 and dominated awards shows since then.
The studio is now embracing facing their famously challenging bosses with friends. This announcment came as suprising, as FromSoftware had told IGN that it was not working on an Elden Ring sequel.
There were other announcements, such as titles from Naughtydog, and a second Outer Wilds game. If there is anything that that the awards tell us, it will be a great year for games in 2025.
